WWUSC Voting: Board President

Per Walla Walla United Soccer Club by-laws, the role of Board President must be voted in by the club.  In previous years,  the United Board presented candidates and voted at the annual summer player party/board meeting.  Since an in-person meeting and vote isn't possible this year, we're going virtual!

After an open nomination/volunteer period, for the position of Presient, the United Board identified Doug Hayes as a nominee.   Please see his introduction statement below.  A write-in candidate name is also an option.

Please take a few moments to vote in a new Board President by clicking HERE.   Voting is open for one week, until 8/10.  Thank you!

CANDIDATE INTRODUCTION

Doug Hayes

My name is Doug Hayes and I have been coaching youth soccer for the past 7 years and for Walla Walla United for the past 4 years.  Currently I coach the clubs girls 06’ team and the boys 09’ team.   Outside of coaching soccer, I am the pastor of College Place Presbyterian Church, where I have worked for the past 18 years.  Over those 18 years, I have been responsible for the youth groups at our church, and have put a lot of time and effort into mentoring and encouraging middle school and high school students.  I have three children, Korinne (12), Carson (10), and Colin (7), who all love the sport of soccer which leaves me with many years of youth soccer ahead of me.

As far as Walla Walla United is concerned, my goals as president will be to try to create a stronger connection between the various teams that are a part of the club.  I believe some of that will be obtained by increasing communication between the board, the coaches, and the parents.   It is also going to be vitally important to create a plan for how our club is going to look in the months ahead as Covid continues to challenge our ability to train and compete.  While I personally don’t think our fall season is going to look anything like what we are used to, I do believe that we can and should develop opportunities for teams and players to continue growing in both their soccer skills and their life skills.   The reason that I coach and the reason I want to step into the role of Club President is that I believe in what competitive youth sports can do in helping young people grow and develop into adults.   Competition, teamwork, self-sacrifice, and hard work are all important lessons that competitive soccer can teach our kids, and regardless of what our fall season looks like, I believe we can continue to help our players grow and thrive.

Fall Soccer 2020 Update

Alas, due to the coronavirus pandemic, all summer United soccer play options have been cancelled, including fun tournaments like Soccer in the Sand

The Walla Walla United board is turning its attention to the Fall 2020 season.   There is still a lot unknown, and, of course, any plans made are subject to change.

Returning Players:

For those players already assigned to a Fall or Spring 2020 United soccer team, the player status will transfer to the Fall 2020 season.  In other words, returning players have a spot on the Fall team and will not need to "try-out" again.

New Player for Existing Team Try-outs:

For existing teams, Coaches will assess player needs and spots available for Fall.  Coaches will organize and host small, individualized team try-outs in August or early September.    Exact dates to be determined.

New Player for Newly Forming United Teams:

We are looking to form new teams, especially for girls and boys who are age 9-10 (born in 2011, 2012).      We are seeking new players and coaches.  We are tentatively planning modified try-outs for the first week in August.    The try-outs will follow State guidelines and the current recommendations of US Soccer and/or other soccer organizations.  To maximize social distancing, try-outs will likely include more individualized skill demonstration vs. scrimmaging.

New Players-- Please Register!

For NEW players interested in joining a United soccer team (existing or new team) parents/players are encouraged to complete the Fall 2020 try-out registration form (at the top of this page).    By completing this form, you will receive timely updates on try-outs for Fall 2020.    Registration is No Cost-- no commitment or payment required at this step.
